School hosts music show


RUMFORD – Nearly 260 fifth- and sixth-graders from 17 central and western Maine schools gathered Tuesday afternoon at Mountain Valley High School to sing and play music.

It was SAD 43’s turn to host the annual event as several hundred parents filed into the high school gym to hear their children play.

Elizabeth Smith, music teacher at Rumford Elementary School, organized the event. She said the state has seven districts where children gather each year and play or sing music together.

Schools taking part at MVHS were: Albion Elementary School; Academy Hill School, Wilton; Benton Elementary School; Cape Cod Hill School, New Sharon; Cascade Brook School, Farmington; Clinton Elementary School; Dirigo Middle School, Dixfield; Jay Middle School; Meroby Elementary School, Mexico; Messalonskee Middle School, Oakland; Mountain Valley Middle School, Mexico; Rangeley Lakes Regional School; Rumford elementary School; Vassalboro Community School; Warsaw Middle School, Pittsfield; Waterville Junior High School and Winslow Junior High School.
