Scribner’s Mill announces last tour of the season

HARRISON – The historic 1847 Scribner’s Mill and Scribner Homestead will conduct its last tour of the season from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

Besides learning the history of the mill, visitors will be able to watch dry barrel parts being manufactured using early 19th-century machinery. In the cooper shop, visitors are offered an opportunity to help assemble a barrel. While supplies last, barrels may be purchased for $40. In the long shed, the shingle mill and edger will be demonstrated.

Across the street from the mill is the Scribner Homestead. Built in 1849, it was the home for five generations of the Scribner family and appears as it did in the 1920s when the house was remodeled. The homestead holds many original Scribner furnishings.

The site, including the barn, ice house and blacksmith shop, holds a large collection of antique mill equipment.
