Sculpture installation kicks off L/A Artwalk

L/A Arts is announcing the venues and performances for Art Walk L/A Aug.  28. At 5:30 p.m., a public ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the installation of the “L/A Rattle” sculpture will take place at 163 Lisbon St. The mayors from Auburn and Lewiston and other special guests will speak, and the Chamber of Commerce will lead an official ribbon-cutting to unveil the public art piece.

Two musical groups will play, the 15-plus member New England Jazz Band will play beginning at 6 p.m. at Dufresne Plaza, while art walk staples the Juke Joint Devils will play at She Doesn’t Like Guthries.

This month’s featured artists are from  Quiltessentials,  which has transformed the Argo Marketing space into an extensive gallery featuring the work of some outstanding quilt artists in the area.

Quiltessentials of Auburn is pleased to partner with L/A Arts to display the work of nearly two dozen quilters, almost all of whom are from the L/A area.  This quilt exhibit represents a wide variety of quilt styles and methods. There will be quilts completely constructed by hand, as well as quilts that are done by machine.  Traditional quilts, art quilts, modern quilts, landscape quilts, memory quilts and collage quilts will all be on display.  Pattern, color, and purpose are all integral part of the quilt making process, and this display will inspire the imagination of what is possible with fabric, needle and thread.  Over 50 examples of quilts from quilt artists and quilt hobbyists can be viewed as part of this eclectic quilt exhibit.

From 5 to 6 15 p.m., there will be a paint party at Dufresne Plaza. The party is completely booked, but walkers are invited to watch as creations emerge from the canvasses.

More than 20 venues are booked — including six in Auburn–  where the talents of as many new and revisiting local artists can be viewed. Art walk features a full website which highlights each evening’s events and has a full artist catalog of work at:
