Sea Dogs to host Leading Women Day

LEWISTON — The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have partnered with the Portland Press Herald to host Leading Women Day on Monday, May 10, when the Sea Dogs take on the Binghamton Mets at 6 p.m.

The Sea Dogs and Portland Press Herald are collaborating in an effort to recognize the many women in Maine who are making positive contributions to their communities, businesses, families and other areas during these trying economic times.

The Leading Women Committee will accept nominations in the areas of Education, Business Leadership, Community Activism, Public Service and Leaders in Nonprofits/The Arts, from Friday, March 19 until Monday, April 19. The committee will recognize one woman from each category whose efforts and commitment make Maine a better place to live, work and raise a family.

The winners will be chosen by the committee based on longevity of service, contribution to their respective industries and interests, capstone accomplishments, ability to overcome adversity as well as their strong vision and commitment to the future. All nominees must be residents of Maine and/or work for a company that has an office located in Maine.

All nominees will be given a ticket to the Coca-Cola picnic area at Hadlock Field for a networking event that will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 10, complete with soft drinks and buffet. The five winners will be recognized on the field prior to the game, each throwing out an honorary first pitch. Additionally, food and soft drinks will be available to everyone in the picnic area until 7 p.m., and a cash bar will also available until the middle of the seventh inning.

Additional tickets to the networking event will be available to purchase for $22 each person, with $10 of every sale going to the Amy St. Laurent Foundation/Portland Police Department R.A.D. Program. The Amy St. Laurent Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2002 in the honor of Maine native Amy St. Laurent. The foundation sponsors the Portland Police R.A.D. program that teaches self-defense classes to women.
