LEWISTON – Beginning Sunday, Jan. 21, The Atrium Art Gallery will showcase the works of more than 60 artists from Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties in the biennial exhibition, “Area Artists 2007.”
The exhibit will open with a free reception open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. at the University of Southern Maine/ Lewiston-Auburn, 51 Westminster St.
On display will be paintings, prints, drawings, watercolors and photography as well as works in clay, metal and fiber. The exhibition features artwork in a variety of styles from representational to abstract, with landscapes, figure studies and portraits, still lifes, and sculpture.
The juried exhibition was open to all artists, age 18 and over, who could submit one or two pieces in any media. The gallery received 225 works from 120 artists. Jurors, Kevin Callahan and Bill Low, selected 73 works from 61 artists for the final exhibition.
Callahan owns Callahan Art Preparatory Services, which provides consulting services to artists, museums, galleries and corporate clients. Low is assistant curator at the Bates College Museum of Art.
“Area Artists 2007” will be up through March 30. Atrium Art Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m Saturday.
