Selectmen accept fire chief’s resignation

LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen voted on Sunday to accept the resignation of Fire Chief Mark Chretien, Town Manager Jim Chaousis said Monday.

Chaousis had announced on Friday that there would be an emergency selectmen’s meeting on Sunday to address a personnel matter and the board would be going into executive session.

Chretien declined comment on his reason for resigning on Monday. He said he hasn’t decided if he will continue as a firefighter on the Livermore Falls department.

Assistant Fire Chief Ron Leclerc is the interim fire chief, Chaousis said.

Leclerc served as chief in the early 1990s for 3 ½ years, Ron Leclerc said. He has been a firefighter with the department for more than 25 years.

The Fire Department will hold a meeting next week, Leclerc said, to decide a name to put forth to town officials review to fill the interim assistant chief position.
