Selectmen to consider truck purchase, road bond

JAY — Selectmen will begin their board meeting Monday with a visit to the town’s highway garage to look at two trucks and a bulldozer.

They will be there at 5:30 p.m. May 23, and then head back to the town office to reconvene at 6 p.m.

Selectmen want to look at the vehicles and equipment to determine what they want to do with them, Town Manager Ruth Cushman said Friday.

Selectmen will consider highway foreman John Johnson’s request to buy a new wheeler truck to add to the fleet, she said.

The board will also open bids from financial institutions pertaining to taking out a $1 million, 10-year bond for road improvements in town.

As of noon Friday, Cushman said she had received five envelopes.

The bond would have to go before voters at town meeting before it is finalized.

Selectmen had put off taking out a $1 million road bond a couple years ago.
