AUBURN – The Androscoggin Chapter of the Maine Women’s Network will examine violence against women and the role of self-defense at its networking luncheon on Wednesday, May 24, at Martindale Country Club in Auburn.

Registration and networking begin at 11:30 a.m., with the formal program beginning at noon. Sensei Bobby Morissette, owner of Xtreme Studios in Sabattus, will share national statistics on crimes against women and examine myths and facts of common self-defense courses.

Morissette is a 3rd-degree black belt in kempo karate and jiu-jitsu, with a special interest in educating women on how to stay safe by knowing some techniques of self-defense. He’ll provide tips, as well as some insight into what to look for in a quality self-defense program.

The cost is $12 for MWN members and $14 for non-members, if prepaid; at-door charge is $14 for members, $16 for non-members.

RSVP online at androscoggin@mainewomensnetwork.com or call 777-3232. Attendees are being asked to bring canned food donations to this month’s program in conjunction with the Good Shepherd Food Bank’s June 3 Ending Hunger campaign.
