Sex offender found near Maine elementary school

WEST BATH, Maine (AP) — A sex offender from Massachusetts with a history of sexually assaulting children is behind bars in Maine after a student’s grandfather reported his car parked outside an elementary school.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department says 58-year-old John Rosa, of Lexington, was arrested Thursday in West Bath on a fugitive from justice warrant and on suspicion of violating conditions of release.

Investigators tell The Portland Press Herald ( ) that Rosa was convicted in 1980, 1988 and 2002 of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Officials say the grandfather called police after spotting and then questioning Rosa outside the West Bath Elementary School. The grandfather became suspicious when Rosa said he was looking for the local courthouse, which he had to have driven past to get to the school.
