DEAR SUN SPOTS: In regard to the column on Dec. 21 regarding our business Beyond Shoe Repair, we apologize for any inconvenience caused in our abrupt move from Auburn to Wilton. We planned on doing a later move with lots of forewarning. However, we were informed back in October that a new business would be moving into the space we had been renting in Auburn, so we had to be out with only a week’s notice. That meant securing a new spot and moving all of our supplies, projects, and machinery (much of which is 500+ pounds!) in just seven days. Because of this, we did not have time to contact each of our customers personally, though we did hang a notice on the door with a contact number that remained consistent throughout the transition, and continues to work in redirecting calls to the new location. (We had to use this temporary number because the unplanned move did not allow the phone company enough time to install a phone at the new location prior to our move date.) This information is not meant to invalidate customers’ concerns; it is simply to provide some context.

For some reason, the final phone number change never went through on Facebook, though the other contact information updates did. We appreciate the customer who wrote to Sun Spots and drew our attention to this fact! We have been able to rectify that issue as a result.

We are thankful to the person who wrote in with the correct information for Beyond Shoe Repair. We are now at 514 Main Street in Wilton. Our phone number is 645-2262. It’s important for business owners to realize that oftentimes readers contact Sun Spots because they don’t have a computer or don’t know how to use one, so looking up information on the web or Facebook isn’t an option. They depend on the local newspaper to get a lot of their information. Also, in this case, some customers were calling the old phone number and may not have seen the sign on the shop’s door.

All is well now, though, thanks to our reader who voiced her concerns, and thanks to the business owner who responded so promptly. It really is important to know we have a shoe cobbler nearby and I love the DropSpot collaboration Beyond Shoe Repair has with local businesses in various towns.
