Show and tell: Creative duo of Poulin and Carlisle will present ‘Art of Collaboration’

BETHEL -Susan Poulin and Gordon Carlisle will present “The Art of Collaboration” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Gould Academy’s Trustees Auditorium, courtesy of the Western Mountains Senior College and Mahoosic Arts Council. There will be a donation of $5 at the door.

Poulin and Carlisle, known as Poolyle Productions, have been collaborating on plays, songs, and artwork for over a decade. Their critically acclaimed productions of “In My Head I’m Thin,” “Ida: Woman Who Runs With the Moose,” ‘Ida’s Havin’ a Yard Sale,” “Spousal Deafness…and Other Bones of Contention,” and “Pardon My French” have broken box office records throughout New England.

Each production has been infused with their unique brand of humor and inventive props.

Together, they’ve been commissioned to write theatrical presentations for a number of national organizations.

The two will perform a few short skits as they share some of their work, talk about the joys and challenges of collaboration, how they go about writing a play and what inspires them.

Poulin is a Maine native and graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Theater Department. She has been a featured performer at the Women’s Performance Festival at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Maine Festival and the Minneapolis Fringe Theater Festival.

Her essays have been heard on Maine and New Hampshire Public Radio. She was recently awarded a 2005 New Hampshire Council on the Arts Traditional Apprenticeship grant to study Traditional Franco-American Music with master artist Lucie Therrien.

Carlisle has been actively involved as a visual artist, songwriter, writer and actor in the New Hampshire seacoast are and in southern Maine for more than 15 years. A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, he makes his living as a visual artist, creating both private and public murals, including New Hampshire’s largest mural, “Lest We Forget,” located in Manchester. His artwork has been exhibited around the United States.
