1927 – 2014
AUBURN — Simonne Lilliane Chretien, 87, formerly of 2 Sand Hill Road in Lewiston, where she lived for most of her life, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Clover Health Care’s Living Center.
She was born in Lewiston on March 4, 1927, a daughter of Jean Baptist and Marie-Anne (Dodier) Caron. She was educated at St. Mary’s School and graduated in 1943, and was a lifetime member of the Lewiston community.
She married Bertrand E. Chretien on June 28, 1947; he predeceased her on Aug. 8, 1999, following 52 years of marriage.
Simonne was a devoted wife and mother of three children whom she deeply loved and was very proud of. She was an excellent seamstress and crafter. She enjoyed helping family members and friends with special projects and could fix just about anything. All the holidays had an extra special touch to them because of her special way of doing things.
Simonne was very active in the arrangement of the Chretien family reunions, which brought this very large family together, making wonderful memories for all who attended. She loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed spending time with them, and would always make them laugh.
She leaves behind her daughter, Claire Caron and close companion, Charlie Gay; two sons, Daniel Chretien of Auburn and Bertrand Chretien and wife, Kari, of Turner; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and sister, Fernande Caron, of Anchorage, Alaska.
Simonne was predeceased by her husband, Bertrand; brothers, Lionel, Alcide, Hermas, Roland, Adrien and Norman; and sisters, Jeannette and Irene.
The family wish to thank the staff at Clover Living Center and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their care and compassion to Simonne during her illness.
