As part of the adult summer reading series “Destination India,” Norway Memorial Library is hosting an evening of North Indian classical music on the sitar with musician David Pontbriand at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 13. The performance will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion of Indian music, instruments, and traditions. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Almost entirely self-taught since 1973, Pontbriand has developed an intuitive and emotive approach that is deeply personal, and yet classical in style, steeped in the traditional ragas of the music of North India. He is dedicated to raising awareness of the instrument and the music for which it was created. Free tickets are required to attend this event and are available at the library.
