Skiing: OHMS racers enjoy success

Oxford Hills Middle School racers had their first dual giant slalom of the season at Sunday River. Despite the lack of fresh, groomed snow, they raced the course well.

The girls’ team placed fifth, with McKayla Ivey almost placing in the top 10. She came in 11th with a combined time of 1:08.99. Tayla Roberts came in next and then it was Chelsea Angevine, Emily Blackshaw, Ellen Bessette and Natale Livak.

The boysplaced 6th with Ryland VanDecker 12th in a combined time of 1:05.10. Coming in next were Todd Gustaitis, Zach Rideout, Matthew LaRoche, Christian Ricci, Finn Williamson and McKinley Murphy. Williamson had a good run on the blue course with a time of 50.55 and he came in with a time of 1:02.19 on the red course, with a combined time of 1:52.74. Murphy came in with a time of 1:19.51 on his first fun on the blue course and on his second run, he came in with a time of 34.27 with a combined time of 1:53.78.

The racers are working hard on their form and technique and learning how and when to set up for their next gate. The team of six girls and seven boys is coached by Laurie Rodrigue.
