ALTON, N.H. (AP) — Two snowmobilers who were rescued after falling through ice on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee have been charged with operating under the influence.

The incident late Saturday involving snowmobilers from Nashua and Manchester prompted fire officials to warn that ice conditions are very poor, with numerous ice ridges that create open water even in the middle of the lake.

Gilford Fire Chief Stephen Carrier tells WMUR-TV in Manchester (http://bit.ly/x7B858 ) that the two snowmobilers were very lucky that they weren’t more seriously injured, and that they had a phone so they could be located.

The men were treated at a hospital before they were charged.
