Softball Colby splits

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Colby softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to Wisconsin-Whitewater in its first game on Friday, but went on to win a five-inning matchup over Oberlin due to the eight-run rule in the nightcap.

Randi Arsenault allowed six hits against Wisconsin-Whitewater, but gave up lone runs in the first and third innings.

Alyssa Crowell pitched a one-hitter against Oberlin, striking out three batters and allowing no walks. Crowell also had a pair of RBI to chip in on offense. Lauren Olmstead added a pair of hits, and Alaina Clark knocked a two-run single for the Mules (2-8).

St. Joe’s splits

STANDISH – Kaitlin Streilein stymied the Monks in the first game of a doubleheader between Brandeis and St. Josephs, 4-0, but Colby McKenney had a pair of RBIs in the second game for a 2-1 Monks victory.

Streilein scattered four hits and one walk for the shutout on the mound for the Judges, and added an RBI single to help her own cause at the plate. Mari Levine had an RBI double in the win. Gabrielle Burrola was saddled with the loss for St. Joseph’s.

McKenney’s heroics came in the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game with two out, plating a pair of baserunners with a walk-off single. Collen Delahanty held the Judges to just four hits in the game to pick up the win for the Monks (5-7).
