GORHAM – Pat Foley fired five shutout innings in relief and the University of Southern Maine scored two runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 7-6 come from behind victory over Rhode Island College in the LEC baseball playoffs.
Trailing 6-5 heading into the seventh inning, Southern Maine (29-13) turned four hits, including a pair of doubles, into two runs to earn the victory. Max Arsenault smacked a one-out RBI single to the tie game, before Stefan Black singled to right field to bring home Brent Lemieux to score the game-winning run.
Ray De La Cruz hit a two- run homer for the Anchormen (20-20).
Boston University 11, Maine 1
ORONO – Boston University exploded for a combined 10 runs in their last two at-bats to dominate over top-seeded Maine 11-1 in the first round of America East softball tournament.
Cassidi Hardy fired a one-hitter and fanned 10 for the Terriers (27-27). Boston University put the game away with six runs in the sixth inning with help from a two-run homer by Liz Alley, who ended the game with two hits and three RBIs. Christy Leath and Brandi Shields each had three hits apiece.
Dana Grimm scored the lone run for Maine (35-18). After walking, she stole second, advanced to third on a fly ball, and scored on Hardy’s wild pitch.
