Spruce Mountain baseball 2017 preview

Coach: Brian Dube (Sixth year)

Class: B; Conference: KVAC

Last year’s record: 5-12 (lost in Class B South prelims)

Returning athletes: Seniors — Austin Gilboe (P/SS), Nate Goodine (P/2B/1B), Noah Preble (OF), Devin Pomeroy (3B), Tyler Posson (C); Juniors — Jordy Daigle (P/3B), Shane Pelletier (OF), Landon Brochu (OF), Hunter Dalton (OF), Nick Lombardi (INF).

Key losses: Ian O’Donnell, Sebastian Lombardi, Tommy Young, Andrew Darling.

Promising newcomers: Freshman — Logan Moffitt (1B/P).

Season outlook: The rebuilding project that spanned the first three years of the Phoenix’ foray into the KVAC should pay off in their final season in the conference. The starting rotation of Gilboe, Goodine and Daigle is back, bolstered by Moffitt. Most of the lineup, led by all-conference outfielder Preble and two-year starter Pelletier, should be solid. Poisson, a starter at first base last year, moves behind the plate. Lombardi returns after an injury-plagued sophomore season to add depth.
