Squirrel has blast; N.H. city goes dark


MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – A squirrel got into a power substation Tuesday morning, shorted out some equipment and caused an explosion that knocked the lights out for nearly 9,000 homes, businesses.

Public Service says witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion around 10:30 a.m., before the lights went out. Police say they had reports of some traffic lights being out on the east side of the city.

All of the power was back on with about 45 minutes.

There were no reports of injuries.
