LEWISTON — The American Heart Association has announced that Susan Keiler, chief operating officer at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, has agreed to chair the 2010 Central Maine Start! Heart Walk.
Keiler and her committee have set a goal of raising $187,000 to fund the AHA’s life-saving research, education and advocacy to prevent heart disease and stroke in the communities.
“Most of us know what we need to do to become healthier. But, making lifestyle changes can be a daunting,” said Keiler. “That is why the American Heart Association and St. Mary’s Health System want you to see us as your partners – supporting you on your journey to better health. After all, there’s truth to the saying ‘there’s strength in numbers.'”
The Central Maine Start! Heart Walk will take place on Sunday, Sept. 19, starting at the Hilton Garden Inn Riverwatch in Auburn. Walkers will have a choice of a one- or three-mile walk along the L/A Trails Riverwalk. The steel drum band “Tinpanic,” will perform and there will be kid’s activities and health screenings.
In addition to the main event in Lewiston-Auburn, other satellite walks are being coordinated in Rumford at Hosmer Field and in Bridgton at Stevens Brook Elementary School.
All walk events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a heart-healthy breakfast, speakers, a walk kickoff time of 9:30 a.m. and lunch following the walk.
