n Word of the week: “pandiculation.” The act of stretching oneself and yawning. Reptiles, birds and most other mammals are known to pandiculate also.

n The Oregon town of Condon was the boyhood home of two Nobel laureates: Linus Pauling and William Murphy, though neither man was born there. The area airport is named for Pauling. (Thanks to John Kehoe of Lake Forest Park, Wash.)
