The Maine Shrine West cheering squad performs for the crowd as the players are introduced before the start of Friday night’s Lobster Bowl Classic at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford. The Lobster Bowl is played each summer at the end of July. The bowl is entering its 18th year for Kora Shriners. More than 1,400 players, 250 coaches and 300 cheerleaders have participated in the bowl, and more than $313, 000 has been raised for the Shriners Hospitals. There are 22 such hospitals across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The players are high school seniors who have just graduated and are about to enter college. They are nominated to play in the game by their coaches and selected by a committee from the Maine Athletics Association.
