State slates review of Auburn’s 2015 Park Avenue paving project

AUBURN — A state plan to reconstruct Park Avenue between Lake and Summer streets in 2015 will get a public review March 6.

The Maine Department of Transportation will pay for the bulk of the $1.7 million project. The review meeting is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at Auburn Hall.

Project Manager Paul MacDonald said the work calls for completely rebuilding the road base and repaving the road so that it has two 11.5-foot-wide lanes, 5-foot shoulders and a sidewalk along the eastern side of the street.

“The design we have is taking care of the roadway, taking care of the drainage, taking care of the pedestrians, taking care of the bicyclists,” MacDonald said. “So, with 11-foot travel lanes and paved shoulders, I can’t imagine there will be complaints about it. They should be able to ride their bicycles on that paved shoulder.”

MacDonald said Thursday’s meeting is designed to introduce the project to the public and to neighbors and get their suggestions.

“Most of the actual feedback we’ll get will come in the days after the meeting,” he said. “We’ll get landowners reminding us that they have a well on their property or that they are concerned about water running off into their driveway.”

People with questions about the meeting or the project can email MacDonald at paul.macdonald@maine.gov.
