NORWAY — Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82 met on May 12, with newly elected President Joyce Clifford presiding.
The unit voted the following donations: USO and travel money to three Girls State delegates that will attend Girls State at Husson University in Bangor in June. Attending will be Deanna Merchant, Demi Rideout and Tiffani Mitchell.
Memorial Day plans were also made. Rose Moulton and Kim Hansen will serve as flag bearers and Joyce Clifford and Carmie Rideout will serve as guards. Marilyn Jones will place the flag at Writhall Park and Demi Rideout will march with the Color Guard and help the two guards place wreaths at Legion Memorial Park. Deanna Merchant will read the poem “In Flanders Field.”
Thelma Denlinger, Beulah Ayer, Marjy Sessions, Barbara Henley, Christine Weiss and Theresa Dodge will help serve coffee and donuts.
Rose Moulton reported that someone has dug up a flower bush in the Memorial Park. The bush was placed at the park in memory of a loved one of one of the unit members. The bush will be replaced.
The meeting was preceded by a buffet style supper, chaired by Marjy Sessions and assisted by Arlene Hobbs and Phyllis Adams.
Installation of officers for 2010-11 also were held. New officers are: President Joyce Clifford; First Vice Marjy Sessions, Second Vice Barbara Henley, Secretary Thelma Denlinger, Treasurer Rose Moulton, Historian Carmie Rideout, Chaplain Christine Weiss, Sergeant-at-Arms Marie Pingree, Executive Committee Beulah Ayer, Eleanor Durant and Ellen Snow.
The installing team included Past Department President Teri Owens, installing officer; Past Department President and present Sergeant-at-Arms for the department Betty Seeley, installing sergeant-at-arms; and Joyce Bickford, installing chaplain.
Membership chair Joyce Clifford stated that she will take memberships to the Department Convention in June. If members would like to pay their 2010-11 dues early, she will add them to the list going to the Department.
