SUV stolen during invasion of home

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

KENT, Conn. (AP) - Authorities have found a sport-utility vehicle that was stolen during a home invasion at socialite Anne Bass' Litchfield County estate last week, state police said Monday.

Bass, 65, and Julian Leftbridge, 59, were assaulted by three armed suspects during a robbery attempt on April 16, state police said. Both were treated at a hospital and released.

State troopers said a 2006 Jeep Cherokee stolen from Bass' home was found unoccupied Sunday in New York by police officials. The vehicle was turned over to Connecticut State Police, who were searching it for evidence.

State police did not release the specific location in New York where the SUV was found, and would not say if anything else was taken from Bass' home.

No arrests have been made. State police are asking anyone who was in the Peet Hill Road area of Kent and saw any suspicious vehicles or people on April 16 to call authorities at 860-567-6800.

Bass divorced Texas billionaire Sid Bass of Fort Worth in the 1980s. Her estate includes than 1,000 acres near the New Milford line, where she keeps a herd of rare Randall cattle.
