Posted By:Distressed at July 6, 2007 11:24 AM (Suggest Removal) When did this become law? I thought they were not going to allow this. It has it's pro's and con's. How do you get your original birth certificate? I have met most of the ones who want to know me. Believe me, if you are adopted, no matter how bad you think you want to know them, LEAVE IT ALONE. I wish I had. But I do want my birth certificate if there is any way possible as I don't believe them for one minute and everybody has a different man for my father. It's a night mare.

I was able to obtain a copy of my childs birth certificate without showing even one piece of identification! Date of Birth, hospital, $10, and it's yours! Even the City Clerks are amazed that it's that easy. I really wish that someone in the legislature would fix this and now.
Think of how this would benefit child kidnappers! If they had the birth certificate in their possession, would anyone question their right to 'their child?'

Posted By:Frog-On-The-Pond at July 6, 2007 1:27 PM (Suggest Removal) Checking my own birth certificate, my adoptive parents names are listed, not my biological mothers name. Since they have passed away, I do not know of any blood relatives that I might have. It would be nice to get to know possible siblings and such. As far as, "leaving it alone" because of fear of what you might find, no family is perfect! Stealing someones history is a greater crime. I was lucky and was raised by wonderful parents, but some in their families left a lot to be desired. Happiness does not come from TRUTH, but peace of mind and hopefully in these cases enduring and endearing relationships can be built.
I do know my birth mothers name (she was 15 years old in 1944) and I do understand the shame and distress she was put under. I do love her in my heart because she made sure, under very grime conditions, that I was given to a loving couple. She gave me life. How could I feel any different towards her.
I know she married at 17 and I surmise that she had other children. They also are in my heart just as any person should have towards their siblings. I feel they would be surprised and proud of the life I have led. I would not bring any shame unto them.
I stopped my search for her simply because I might be a reopening of old wounds and also that her family now might not know about me. I am registered with the Maine adopted listing and should she want to find me it's and easy step for her.
To break the ice, My name is Jean-Marie
Doyon and I was born August 18th 1944 at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. This is who I am and not ashamed of the above facts. I just hope that others like me or their biological families will feel the same.
I thank the State Of Maine for the progressive action they have taken, and opening up this subject.
Fro further contact, IED@ATT.NET . I will welcome any inquiries.
