ATV crash injures Wilton man

Friday, July 6, 2007

WILTON - A Wilton man was taken to Maine Medical Center on Wednesday by LifeFlight air ambulance after he was hurt in an ATV crash on the rail trail off Cemetery Road in East Wilton.

Brent Adams, 50, a passenger on an ATV driven by Curtis Moody, 38, of Wilton, suffered a cut to his head and was unconscious following the 5:30 p.m. accident, investigators said.

Adams was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital with head and neck injuries then airlifted to Maine Medical Center. He was doing better and was conscious before he was taken to Portland, said Mark Latti, Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesman. Maine Medical Center listed no patient by that name on Thursday.

The men were riding a 2003 Arctic Cat ATV toward Shelly's Hometown Market in East Wilton when Moody lost control on some bumps and the right front wheel caught the side of a six-inch tree, stopping the vehicle and ejecting the riders.

Neither was wearing a helmet. Moody refused to go to the hospital.

Wilton police officer Richard Caton responded to the scene and Game Warden Gary Allen was called in to investigate the accident.

No charges are pending, said police Chief Dennis Brown, who added the accident remains under investigation.

I at least hope these idiots are charged for the life-flight charges, it costs severe money to operate this helicopter and it should only be used for severe emergencies, not for some do do heads that don't know how to drive an ATV, let alone some vehicle on our roads. Soak 'em good, maybe, just maybe they'll get the message.

Hey Ken....I think that is why they call them "accidents", God forbid one ever happen to you, I hope someone has a little more compassion then you do! If they had been drinking then yes, give them a high bill and a court date but it sure doesn't sound that way.

Nice compassion for your fellow man Ken.. If they were on a motorcycle without a helmet would you have the same opinion?

First...let's have a little compassion for those injured. Yes, Lifeflight is expensive. But....until we stop supporting able bodied individuals who are unemployed because they are just plain lazy how can we charge others the expense of life saving equipment. This State has set a nasty precedance. We will pay for your healthcare, your food, your housing, your heat, your multiple babies....year after year after year. Meanwhile, you still manage to smoke cigarettes, abuse and clog our emergency rooms with stupid complaints, and talk on your cell phone at the taxpayers expense. Second, lets remember that an "accident" is an incident that occurs that could NOT be avoided. Sad to say, but most often injuries are the result of "crashes". In the medical field we no longer call them MVA's (motor vehicle accidents)...they are MVC's (motor vehicle crashes). With proper use and control of any vehicle..."crashes" can be avoided. Of course, most people don't realize that until it is too late.

I listen to the scanner a lot while playing cards and Brent's name is on it at least once a week. Maybe this will calm him down a bit.

Ken, you know what? What I guess you don't realize is that everything we say and do comes full circle, buddy. When that total lack of compassion for your brother comes back around to you, it's going to hurt at least twice as bad. Ouch. God have mercy on you.
