Sox fan seeks broadcaster bios

Monday, July 30, 2007

Dear Sun Spots: You have helped me before so here goes with another: I'm a Red Sox fan. I watch most of the games on NESN, The Red Sox station. The station broadcasters are: Tom Caron, Hazel Mae, Katheryn Tappen, Tina Cervasio and Don Ossillo. Are any of them married? For those broadcasters that are married, do their spouses travel with them? Thanks a lot. Also, how would I get in touch with Greta Van Susteren. - No Name, Peru.

Answer:
Sun Spots has been able to glean some information on your questions online. However those that do not have complete answers mean the reporter declined to reveal this very personal information.

Lewiston native Tom Caron is an 1986 graduate of Saint Michaels College where he majored in journalism. He started off with a small newspaper in Vermont covering the Vermont Reds, Cincinnati's AA affiliate. He also spent five years with WGME 13 in Portland as a sports anchor. Caron also wrote frequently for the Sun Journal. He is married to his wife, Kelly, and has two sons Jack and Robbie.

Hazel Mae is the anchor for "NESN SportsDesk," the network's sports news and highlights program that airs live every night following NESN's Red Sox and Bruins coverage. She also serves as host of NESN's Red Sox week-in-review program "Granite City Electric Red Sox Rewind," and "The Buzz," a weekly fast-paced Top 10 countdown of all things Bruins. A native of Toronto, she is single.

Kathryn Tappen is weekend anchor and weekday reporter for "NESN SportsDesk." She spent a year and half covering New England sports as the weekend anchor and weekday sports reporter for NBC affiliate WJAR-10 in Providence. She has also served as a sideline reporter for NBC Universal Sports and hosted a nightly special covering the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. She's a Rutgers University graduate.

Tina Cervasio knew she wanted a career in sports as early as the age of 11. It started on a family trip to the Rose Bowl. Cervasio is a Red Sox field reporter and reports live from the field for both the pre-and post-game shows and during the games. She is married to husband, Kevin.

A native of Melrose, Mass., Don Orsillo joined NESN as the network's play-by-play announcer for the 2001 season. Orsillo, who called Hideo Nomo's no-hitter in Baltimore during his NESN debut, won an Emmy Award for outstanding play-by-play in 2003. Following the 2004 season, he appeared in the Farrelly Brothers' film "Fever Pitch" with Fox's Tim McCarver and ESPN's Harold Reynolds. He resides in Smithfield, R.I., with his wife, Lisa, and daughters Sydney and Madison.

Regarding your question on Greta Van Susteren, according to www.foxnews.com, there is a contact e-mail for Van Susteren's show, "On The Record" and you might consider trying to write to her there at Ontherecord@foxnews.com.
