CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The Sierra Club and steelworkers union are asking New Hampshire citizens to pressure presidential candidates to fight global warming by pledging to reduce carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050, create clean energy jobs and promote fair trade.

Michael Roche, president of the United Steelworkers of America Local 8938, says thousands of jobs can be created associated with producing clean energy. As an example, he pointed to steelworkers in Europe who are producing wind turbines.

Jerry Curran, the Sierra Club's state chapter chairman, says the two groups are launching a petition drive to call on public officials to cut carbon emissions 2 percent a year, create two million jobs in renewable energy and energy efficient industries and require trade agreements that include enforceable workers' rights and environmental standards.
