UMF dancers express feelings of isolation
Wednesday, October 31, 2007
FARMINGTON - The UMF Dancers will perform their winter 2007 concert, "Connection and Alienation," Friday, Nov. 9, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington's Merrill Hall.
The presentation features seven original choreographed pieces inspired by 21-year-old Franco-Algerian author Faiza Guene's novel "Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow." It will be performed to the live, original, Mississippi Delta-inspired blues guitar music of UMF student and music major Ben Prentiss.
The student dancers' original, choreographed performances express the novel's themes of alienation and isolation felt by the Muslim heroine, Doria, as she lives her day-to-day life in a fictional Parisian ghetto.
Student, under the direction of UMF Dancers Artistic Director Margaret Gould Wescott, are Rebecca Douin of Manchester; Shantelle Forgue, Pittsfield;Genevieve Keenan, Manchester Center, Conn.; Rebecca LaRovera, Kingfield; Keith Nadeau, Biddeford; Janathri Nanayakkara, Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Jillianne Wrin, Pittsfield.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. |
