Farm aid programs announced

Thursday, November 15, 2007

OXFORD - Farmers who suffered losses caused by natural disasters in recent years are reminded to sign up for three new disaster programs.

Gary Raymond, executive director for the USDA Farm Service Agency in Oxford County, said the programs are Livestock Compensation, Livestock Indemnity and Crop Disaster.

Eligible ranchers and other livestock producers can apply to receive benefits under the Livestock Compensation Program and Livestock Indemnity Program. Sign-up began Sept. 10. Sign-up for the Crop Disaster Program began Oct. 15 and applies to farmers who suffered losses to their crops. Sign-up end dates for these programs will be announced at a future time.

More information is available in a fact sheet titled Agricultural Assistance Act of 2007, found on FSA's Web site, http://www.fsa.usda.gov; click on Disaster Assistance Programs. USDA is developing individual fact sheets about each program to be posted online soon.
