PARIS - Three people pleaded guilty Wednesday to embezzling thousands of dollars from their respective places of employment.

The pleas, all to Class C theft, were heard by Justice Roland A. Cole at the Oxford County Superior Court.

Thomas D. Morton, 38, of Peru pleaded guilty and was sentenced to serve 60 days of a two-year sentence. He will also serve one year of probation and pay $8,425 in restitution as well as a $1,000 fine.

Morton was indicted in August for stealing from Community Energy, a Rumford fuel company doing business as Blaisdell's Store, in Peru. According to Assistant District Attorney Richard Beauchesne, Morton took the money from an ATM machine while working at the store.

Defense attorney Maurice Porter said Morton will pay pack $5,000 immediately and the remainder over 11 months.

Kristopher Murch, 22, of 48 Pine St. in Paris waived prosecution and pleaded to a statement about the case. If he meets certain conditions, including making a $2,000 donation to the American Red Cross, the case will be closed after a year.

Murch was accused of making electronic transfers from his grandmother's account to his own account while an employee at Norway Savings Bank. He transferred $4,750 in total, which has been repaid to the bank by his grandmother. Murch has taken out a promissory note and will repay his grandmother.

Emily P. Parsons, 34, of 15 Beechwood Lane in Bridgton, pleaded no contest to stealing $7,373 while a bookkeeper for OT To Learn & Play, a daycare service in Norway. According to records, she wrote checks to herself and altered records.

Parsons will be required to pay the full amount, as well as $2,330 in investigative costs and a $2,000 fine. Beauchesne recommended a three-year underlying sentence with all but one year suspended with two years of probation.

Defense attorney Merritt Hemingway disagreed with the recommendation, and sentencing was continued to March 20.
