Born to wander and make song (but currently working at a theater near you).

Levi Galloway says he was born to wander. But the 23-year-old folk/blues musician (harmonica and guitar) has settled down a bit recently with local music gigs and a job as assistant tech director (a.k.a. "slave to all things theater") at the Public Theatre in Lewiston.

Name: Levi Galloway

Age: 23

Hometown: The back of a bus.

Back of a bus? I was born a vagabond with a wanderlust buried deep in my soul. I spent most of it wandering roads strewn across the countryside. I suppose if my hometown were to be anywhere, it would be the gray bus that I drove and lived in for sometime.

Married/single/relationship? I admit it, I'm twitterpated.

College? I attended school for a year in Great Falls, Montana, then transferred to the University of Maine at Farmington, where I graduated.

At the Public Theater, are you the all-important keeper of the spotlight? Well ... at the Public we don't actually use spotlights, but if there was one, I'd be on it. As a slave to all things theater, there really can be no exceptions.

How'd you get your job? I lost my soul somewhere in the back roads of Texas. My wanderings since left me in the genteel hands of Public. Rampant searching. That's what got me this job, I suppose.

Have you always been involved in theater? I've been involved in theater in one sense or another. When I was a boy my mother would stage acts to go along with popular music for the community. I was Salty Sam and a Charleston boy once, long ago.

How did you get involved in music? I would say that music became involved in me... I didn't have much choice it seems.

Favorite gigs? Rest stops along the highway.

Favorite musicians? Aaron Parrett, John Popper, children.

Why? Aaron Parrett is a fascinating storyteller, his "voice" is truly unique. John Popper revolutionized harmonica playing. Children don't try. Their music just happens.

Where do you play now? Other than my living room for a circle of other starving artists, I'll be playing a gig over at Willy Beans in the next few weeks.

Which is cooler - harmonica or guitar? Harmonica, but don't tell Guitar.

Best song to play on harmonica? Probably "Amazing Grace." It is simple, soulful and can be played to fit any muse.
