Police car damaged, two deer killed in collision

FRYEBURG - A Fryeburg police officer was uninjured Wednesday night in a collision that killed two deer.
Chief Wayne Brooking of the Fryeburg Police Department said Officer Ian Tate was driving a Ford Crown Victoria cruiser near the Indian Acres campground on Route 5 when the cruiser came upon the deer.
"It hit one deer, which was pushed into the second deer, and it hurt it enough that it had to be dispatched," said Brooking.
Brooking said the cruiser has a damaged light and left front fender, and estimated that repairs will cost under $1,000. He said the cruiser will be back in service by the beginning of next week. In the meantime, the department will use its three other vehicles for coverage.
The Oxford County Sheriff's Office was contacted about the incident shortly before midnight, according to its activity log.
"They routinely handle all accidents involving Fryeburg police cruisers," said Brooking.
Brooking said he didn't know how fast Tate was traveling at the time. |

Oh, and learn to spell before posting. Thanks.

Lets waste tax dollars investigating how fast the officer was going when he hit a couple of deer, something that happens all the time in Maine. Great idea. A deer jumping out in front of a car is pretty difficult to avoid even if you're traveling below the speed limit. If a couple of deer are traveling together and jump in front of a vehicle while running side by side, chance are if you hit one, you'll hit both. It happened to me once...it wasn't very cool. Cut the officer some slack.
