Photojournalist earns recognition
Friday, March 14, 2008
BETHEL - Wedding photojournalist Andree Kehn of Bethel has been honored in the prestigious Wedding Photojournalist Association Photography Competition.
Kehn, owner of Andree Kehn Wedding Photography, placed sixth in the Kids (Being Kids) category for a black and white image captured during a wedding ceremony at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming during the summer of 2007. The panel of judges included Pulitzer Prize winners, White House newsphotographers and Photographer of the Year recipients from around the country.
Kehn was also recognized by the association in the fall of 2007, winning 13th place for a photograph in the contest's transportation category.
Kehn is one out of fewer than 20 wedding photojournalists in Maine who are members of the Wedding Photojournalist Association. The WPJA is an international, membership-based organization which represents professional photographers who photograph weddings following the conventions of photojournalism.
Member photojournalists avoid choreographing the event, seeking instead to document the experiences of the participants as they enjoy the wedding day.
Kehn has been a working photojournalist for eight years. She has been a staff photographer for The Citizen newspaper in Laconia, N.H., and a freelance photographer for The Associated Press, the Sun Journal and The Bethel Citizen. She has photographed dozens of weddings throughout New England and across America, while continuing as an active freelance photojournalist.
