Anyone even remotely willing to do that should be charged with child endangerment. Thank God Judge Delahanty squashed it...I simply can't believe the arrogance to even take this to hearing. Shame on you Raymond, and shame on your attorney as well. Kudos to Cashman and Delahanty, but what a waste of your precious time.

Like it or not, the man is still innocent of the crime untill judged by a jury of his peers or until he pleads out. Delahanty could only make the choice to deny... Even if he was completely innocent, (not saying that he is...) could he take the chance of putting him back in contact with children? No way.

Posted By:gunslinger at March 28, 2008 9:16 AM (Suggest Removal) Wow. I hope I'm never put in front of a jury in this county. (Laughing) Do any of you remember the story out of NYC when a young man (30ish) was accused of fondling a boy in an airport bathroom? The kid, 13, came out and told his parents that the man in the bathroom had tried to touch him. This guy was arrested, lost his wife and 2 kids, his job, probably all his friends, only to have the boy admit a year later (before it went to trial) that he was just "playing a joke".
I'm absolutely certain that this isn't the case here... but you all are ready to lynch this guy based on information from the newspaper and the local rumor mill.
(now I'm waiting to hear from the 40 of you who are "personally involved" in the case and "have all the information")

Get the facts before you start comparing this to a NYC case! This was a man who was known by many and I don't think everyone is drawing their conclusions simply from the News and rumors. Because so many people were affected, many of us have FACTS! The sad part is....I guarantee you he never sees a jury! However, if he does....I hope he gets what he deserves! Posted By:My Thoughts at March 28, 2008 9:39 AM (Suggest Removal) I am outraged that this article has two HUGE errors. One that makes the school depaartment look bad and on the makes Jim look bad. First Ms. Cashman never made the comment about other teachers being present when Jim allegedly touched students. If a teacher had seen Jim do this, I can’t imagine any teacher who wouldn’t have reported it!
Second, the comment about the child pornography is inaccurate as to what Ms. Cashman said. Ms. Cashman told the judge that, though Raymond was under investigation for allegedly looking at a child pornography site, but that no illegal material had been found on his computer. So, if the child pornography thing is a null point, WHY BRING IT UP? Sensationalism that’s why...Mr Williams, were you even in the court room? I don’t recall seeing you there! I was one of the few people in the room beside Raymond and his attorney and I only saw a photographer (who I know was not you)...where are you getting your information? This goes to show "J" that even though you say "the newspaper says he admitted it" you can't believe everything they post.
Another point I talked to a parent who called the paper asking why they were printing this stuff if they didn't know all the facts, and the response back was "it sells papers" COME ON PEOPLE!!
People reading/posting comments, please do not post stupid hateful comments if you do not know Jim, the media has done a wonderful job of destroying his life and there is no need for you to contribute. Jim’s side of the case has still yet to be heard, or reported (as he is under strict instructions to not make any comments about his case to the media), I think that is more to this case than what is being reported and Jim will have his turn in Court. As many people have already posted, He is innocent until proven guilty. This article just goes to show you shouldn’t believe everything you read. How many other ‘errors’ did the media make in reporting this case :( I'm with jonny walker, I can't wait to hear what really happened during Jim's "confession". Are you people forgetting that this is the same detective that helped frame the Mayor a few years ago for DUI?

Posted By:exmirsw at March 28, 2008 10:03 AM (Suggest Removal) This is sad for everyone! I do have a child that was fondled a few years ago and came forward with the details. As a good parent, I felt it was my duty to teach my child to not hate. Instead we focused on the issues my child was dealing with and then tried to understand the SICKNESS of the perp. Maybe the perp was abused (a victim himself) at one point. Maybe he needed someone to help him and try to understand sickness. Lets face it, people in their right mind would not do these things as well as the many other horrific crimes that are committed. I am not taking the perps side by any means, only trying to understand and dicourage hate that tends to breed violence.

Posted By:? at March 28, 2008 10:44 AM (Suggest Removal) First of all "this is unreal" I think you should be in school. It is obvious that you are a student just based on your writing and if you had Mr. Raymond as my children did you were lucky to have a teacher who was totally dedicated and loved sharing his passion for music with others! I do not know a single child who was uncomfortable with Mr. Raymond. I have asked my children if they know anyone who felt uncomfortable with him and they cannot recall a single incident.
As for brandon: your comment about wishing other children to be fondled just because you're are filled with hatred and anger because there are people out there that believe in innocent until proven guilty makes you NO BETTER THAN ANY PERP OUT THERE!!! Just wishing harm to a child is as bad as committing the act.
Now for my comments.... My children worked very closely with Mr. Raymond. He taught them to love music and to feel good about themselves. He taught them to feel comfortable performing in front of large groups and helped them to learn about themselves more than any other teacher ever has. My instinct is to believe a child when they make accusations because we teach them to come to us and we do not want our actions after they come to us to teach them to not trust us. However, we do live in a society that says we are innocent until proven guilty. Being proven guilty is not done through reading newspaper articles written by journalists who want to make a name for themselves and need to sell papers to do so. If and when this goes to trial.....(and my belief is only an innocent person would take a chance with a jury because why would you want all of the "FACTS" out in the public unless you can prove them wrong.... we will all be able to find out what actually happen. I believe Jim will be found innocent and the people who convicted him based on sensationalism will eat their words.
My one wish for this community is that we follow our country's belief system of one being innocent until proven guilty because if it were you being accused of such a terrible thing you wouldn't want to be convicted by the community you felt so comfortable in all these years and become alienated based on sensational journalism!

Posted By:concernedcitizen at March 28, 2008 11:21 AM (Suggest Removal) OMG: His bail conditions already allow him to be around family as long as it is supervised by another adult. You are entitled to your opinion, but if you think the majority of the children he taught were not creeped out by him, you really should look further. I do hope it all comes out in front of a jury, but my opinion is, he will take a plea to avoid that happening! The reason the D.A. fought the bail amendment and the Judge denied his request yesterday is because there are parents (like yourself) that cannot seem to believe what this man has already admitted to! He likes "Little girls".....his words! "Little voices" tell him to do these things!...his words! Read the affidavit for his arrest! I understand this is hard for some parents to accept! We trusted him with our children and he was great with music, however, he poses a danger to our children and because he is mentally ill, he always will! I do hope for your children's sake, you do not allow contact in the future with this man.

What an incredibly smart, calm, reassuring way to handle this awful incident with your child. As you can see by the posts here, most people respond with ANGER and HATE and it does nothing to educate or inform other kids. We need "good tough bad touch" education at the elementary schools so kids know when its an inapprpriate touch and who they need to tell immediately. I always think of the Salem witch hunts when crowds of people start foaming at the mouth like this. Take a chill pill people and let the courts handle it but more importantly, exlain to your children how they need to protect themselves and that they can tell you ANYTHING...

Why bother to believe someone is innocent until proven guilty when we teach our children the opposite!

Posted By:My Thoughts at March 28, 2008 11:55 AM (Suggest Removal) "OMG" if you run into Jim at a store you and your kids can say hello. This is known as 'incidental contact', which is not a problem according to his bail conditions. Now if you make arrangements for him to come over your house or to meet you somewhere with your kids, then that is a violation. I've seen him out in public many times, he certainly isn't hiding from anyone, which I think if someone was guilty they'd be hiding out and not speaking to anyone. Just my 2 cents...

If someone "hears voices" they are ill and telling your child who is safely standing by your side not to say hello to some one based on rumor is teaching your child to hate some one. So feel free to skip this blog. I really only wrote it to join in with those of you who are intelligent enough to understand that you can't believe everything you read or hear, that kids could possibly be wrong, and that the entire premise of Justice in our country is based on "innocent until proven guilty". People who want legal cases to be tried in the media should not have the privledge of living in the USA.
I know Jim personally, I know all the kids involved personally, and my children have worked with Jim for many years. My kids never felt uneasy with him--quite the opposite. In fact, I credit him with inspiring them and making them self-confident. I think people would be surprised that the majority of parents who know him really well still support him. Oh, and I am a trained and mandated reporter so I do know what to look for.......
So I will do what reasonable people do--wait for the Justice system to do it's job and continue to pray for all people involved.
