Three other good ways to beat spring fever

Sunday, March 30, 2008

1. Hike into Tuckerman's Ravine and ski or ride it. Any hike on Mount Washington in New Hampshire's nearby White Mountain National Forest should not be taken lightly. If you are going to ski or ride, pre-planning is essential. A great online resource to help you prepare is at: www.tuckermans.org

2. Do some late-season snowmobiling. The latest reports from northern Maine have suggested many trails will be open into May. If you don't have your own sled or want to try a guided tour or need any other information about snowmobiling, check out the Maine Snowmobiling Association's site at: www.mesnow.com

3. Take a spring snowshoe or Nordic ski tour. Pick a winning route and keep in mind that an overnight trip is much more enjoyable in the longer and warmer days of spring than the dark cold days of deep winter - and a good way to "warm up" for the summer camping season. To find trails near you, a great source is the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands Web site at: www.state.me.us/doc/parks. Click on the "Find Parks & Land" link to the right of the page.
