Governor to appeal decision

Thursday, April 10, 2008

AUGUSTA (AP) - Gov. John Baldacci will appeal the government's denial of emergency assistance for expenses from the March snowstorm in northern Maine.

Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, R-Maine, say they will support the governor's appeal of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's denial.

Snowe says the record snowfall March 19-22 had disastrous effects on Aroostook County's infrastructure.

Snowe says roofs collapsed, roads iced up and homes were swallowed by massive drifts.

Rep. Mike Michaud, D-Maine, says the denial demonstrates the inability of the federal government to respond to disaster situations within a timeframe that matters.

why couldnt we use money from the general fund? what is that money for anyway? In Fiscal Year 2007, over $50 million was transferred to the General Fund. this is from the Maine state lottery.

You can just imagine that if this was in Kennebunkport that the president would have granted Gov, Baldacci's request.

Use the money wasted on the Pro illegal immigrants stance this Governor takes, with Maine peoples money! These are hard times so we should take care of Maine and the USA. I feel that No Federal money should be given to sanctuary cities or states. Try enforcing the laws we have now.

Michaud was right,Paul. So that makes you the idiot. Why shouldn't Maine get federal aid? Our tax money goes to aid everyone else in this country. Why shouldn't they help our people as well?Oh and congrats for cleaning your roof.I hope you didn't hurt yourself.
