Maine truckers to be part of rally

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

LINCOLN (AP) - At least 50 Maine truckers plan to be in Washington, D.C., later this month as part of a national rally to protest record-high diesel fuel prices.

Belinda Raymond of the Coalition to Lower Fuel Prices said her group is aiming to get 100 or more trucks to participate in the national event on April 28.

About 15 truckers signed up Sunday at a coalition meeting in Lincoln.

Maine truck drivers say the high price of fuel is crushing the state's forest products and hauling industries.

The coalition, which was formed last fall, says high diesel prices have caused at least 50 independent Maine truckers to park their rigs.
