FARMINGTON - The University of Maine at Farmington's 155th commencement will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, outdoors behind the Einar A. Olsen Student Center.

The graduating class includes approximately 415 students. Elementary education major Jessica Longstreet of Georgetown will be the student speaker.

Honorary degrees of doctor of humane letters will be awarded to Roger Spear and Liz Lerman.

Spear began his tenure of nearly 40 years with the university as assistant business manager in 1966, immediately after receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration from Boston University. After one year on the job, Spear became UMF's chief financial officer, making him the youngest administrator to hold the position at any college in the country at the time.

Spear retired as the university's vice president for administration.

Recognized as a choreographer, performer and a leading force in contemporary dance, Liz Lerman of Maryland will be recognized for her pioneer work in choreography and community building and the inspiration it has provided to a generation of Maine dancers.

The outdoor ceremony is open to the public. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the university's Fitness and Recreation Center. Admission to the indoor ceremony will be limited to those with tickets. Guests are also welcome to watch the ceremony live over closed-circuit television in Lincoln Auditorium, located in Roberts Learning Center.
