Students hold health fair at St. Dom's

On Tuesday April 8, 2008, the two Anatomy and Physiology classes at St. Dominic Regional High School held their First Annual Health Fair for all students and faculty of the school. The classes were divided into planning committees, and with the help of teacher Mrs. Pamela Kay, they organized the entire event.

The anatomy students planned two of the exhibits: Nutrition and Stress Management. The Nutrition table offered healthy snack ideas and even some free samples, and the Stress Management table offered home-made stress balls and tips for staying calm under pressure. Nursing students from the CMMC School of Nursing set up two booths on different types of cancer and on heart health and disease. The nursing students were knowledgeable and very interactive, taking blood pressures and teaching the use of different models. There was also a representative from the YMCA who had a booth on fitness and exercise where students were able to test their BMI and body fat percentages. The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council showed their video "Smashed," a video that helps increase awareness of underage drinking

The fair was definitely a success. "It was a great opportunity to teach others, but also a great opportunity to learn as well," said Mary Lewis, a junior anatomy student. The health fair will now be an annual tradition and will hopefully grow and expand each year.
