The sun, the hope

,
Wednesday, May 7, 2008

The months pass by one at a time. Sometimes slowly and sometimes quickly. The year has been long. Snow has continually fallen from a heavy dark sky.

The air is dry as a desert and cold as the arctic. Day after day we have entered the school building with the same people, the same recycled air, and the same tired faces. Sadness thrives within us all from lack of sun, fresh air, and a day free from stress, rumors, and busy thought. I have watched people swallow their pain, their sadness, their illness, just to make it through the day with their sanity. I have watched my own cares slip away and float into the gray sky for I know there must be an end to this darkness, and I will sacrifice minimal values to make it to the spring.

But the sun has presented itself for brief moments in recent days. The height of the snow banks has slightly diminished though the ugly brown sand from snow plows still clings to the banks.

The sun is a glimmer of hope for all. It is a savior. Attitudes begin to become less sour. I have regained the confidence to hold my head up in the halls, all thanks to the sun. The sun. It relieves stress when you walk out of the school building and the rays wash over your face. Taking in the moment, taking in a deep breath, you relax. The sun is hope. The sun is burning proof that these endless days may cease.
