Tom Rowe benefit concert on May 10
Wednesday, May 7, 2008
On Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. the Franco-American Heritage Center will come alive with the legacy of Maine folk musician, Tom Rowe. This year marks the fourth annual Remembering Tom Rowe, A Celebration in Song concert to benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation.
An Auburn native, Rowe was a founding member of the highly acclaimed folk trio, Schooner Fare. Rowe passed away in January 2004 due to complications of throat cancer, leaving behind an incredible wealth of music.
The May 10 concert promises to be an evening filled with music and remembrances bringing together Rowe's fellow Schooner Fare musicians, Chuck and Steve Romanoff; Rowe's son, Dave (Dave Rowe Trio); Denny Breau who played with Tom and Dave Rowe in the trio, Turkey Hollow; Phil House; Tim Sample; and The humble Farmer, Robert Skoglund, as emcee.
"This year's concert promises to be the most exciting one yet. We are so excited about these stellar and popular Maine acts sharing the stage," stated son and concert organizer, Dave Rowe. "I decided to put together a show that my dad would have loved. Although he was best known for folk music, he loved all kinds of music and was friends with all kinds of musicians. If my dad had owned an iPod, it would have sounded a lot like this concert is going to. And now the addition of some Maine humor …. That's Ahhht with a capital A-R-T!"
All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation, a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to funding Maine-based cancer research and finding hope for the people of Maine.
Since 1976, the Foundation has supported science-based cancer research, education, and patient support programs throughout the state. Dedicated to advancing the path to a cancer free future, all funds raised for the Maine Cancer Foundation remain in Maine.
