Clarification
Friday, May 9, 2008
In yesterday's editorial, we wrote Maine repealed its motorcycle helmet laws. Maine did repeal its universal helmet law in 1977, but instituted helmet laws for riders under 15, and riders in the first year of their license or learner's permit, in 1983. |

Posted By:Valerie at May 9, 2008 6:30 AM (Suggest Removal) but in your editorial yesterday you did not mention the 70's or 80's.does this mean people only got cool enough to get themselves killed starting in the 90's,funny though how more motorcycle deaths helmeted or non-helmeted coincided with the arrival of the second generation cell phone.the cell phone that was more affordable to people.now lets look at this no helmets from 1977 thru 1990.not a whole lot of cell phones (before 1990 they cost around $3,500 if you wanted one).,and every time you talk about people dying you use the 90's on up.me I would think instead of crying about people who choose their FREE right not to wear a helmet.maybe you aught to look at how many people were on, or had a cell phone in their hand or were scrounging around on the seat next to them for their cell phone.
