AUBURN - Rachel P. Billings, 58, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully May 7 at the Hospice House, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on Oct. 10, 1949, in Auburn, the daughter of Joseph and Lorette Fortier Chaput. She graduated from St. Dominic's High School and then went onto the University of Maine at Farmington. She then continued her education at the University of New England, where she obtained her master's degree in education.

In November 1968 she married Robert A. Billings. They lived and raised their family in Lewiston. She taught at McMahon Elementary for 25 years, and spent the last few years teaching at Turner Elementary. She took great pride in teaching children and enjoyed it very much. She also enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, gardening and spending time with her dear friends.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Billings of Lewiston; her daughter, Angela and her special companion, Alex, of Corinna; her mother, Lorette Chaput of Auburn; her brother, David Chaput and his wife, Gisele, of Chambersburg, Pa.; her nephew, Phil of Lewiston; her sister, Christine McDermott and husband, Arnold, of North Bloomfield, Ohio; her niece, Cassandra and nephew, Dillion, of North Bloomfield, Ohio; and her aunt, Louise Nadeau of Auburn.

We would also like to thank the staff at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for all the care and support given during her stay.
