Sunday, May 11, 2008

BANGOR (AP) - A 56-year-old homeless man accused of fatally beating a fellow hobo at a makeshift camp in Bangor has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.

Stephen James was arraigned Friday in Penobscot County Superior Court in the April 27 slaying of 63-year-old Clyde Worster.

His body was found in a wooded area near Interstate 95 known as "The Pines," where he and James were staying.

According to court documents, Worster died of blunt force trauma to the head and also had a broken neck. James is alleged to have beaten him with a log.

James is being held in the Penobscot County Jail.
