Auburn man presented Danville Grange award
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Michael Brooks of Danville was presented with the annual Community Citizen Award at a recent meeting of Danville Junction Grange 65. Brooks is a member of the Maine Track Club, Central Maine Striders and Crow Athletics. He is on the board of directors for the Maine Track Club and has raced in every state in the union.
Among his many accomplishments is that of raising money for Camp Sunshine.
In 2004 he raised more than $20,000 and another $5,000 in 2005 from donations that he collected after running 135 miles in the Badwater Desert. In May of 2006 he ran 320 miles in a six-day race and raised more than $6,500.
Through his efforts and those of others, more than 20 children with life-threatening illnesses and their families have had the opportunity to attend Camp Sunshine.
Each year Brooks also grows hundreds of pumpkins, which he donates to the child care center at the YMCA and Children Services, Department of Health and Human Services.. |
