"The Breast Cancer Diaries," a film featuring former television news personality Ann Murray Paige, will be shown at Central Maine Medical Center on Monday, May 19.

The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing is sponsoring the film screening as well as a panel discussion that will follow. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chairmen's Rooms, located on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

Murray Paige is a Maine writer, television journalist and co-producer of the "The Breast Cancer Diaries," a film that documents her journey with breast cancer.

A panel discussion following the screening of the film will feature Murray Paige; film director Linda Pattillo; cancer survivor Jean Libby; medical oncologist Dr. Nicholette Erickson, Hematology-Oncology Associates; and nurse practitioner Kathi Varney, CMMC Sam and Jennie Bennett Breast Care Center. Oncology social worker Kerry Irish, director of the Dempsey Center, will moderate the discussion.

Murray Paige is a frequent contributor to Maine Public Television as host of several series, including "Reaching Higher," "Maine on Health" and "Hometown Economies." She is also the author of "Just Thinking Diaries: on the Web site, RaisingMaine.com.

Prior to her work at Maine Public Broadcasting, she was an anchor-reporter for WCSH-6, the NBC affiliate in Portland, and a reporter at WTVR-TV News Channel 6 in Richmond, Va.

In her career as a news journalist, Murray Paige has been nominated for a regional Emmy and received a Maine Association of Broadcasters award for a continuing series of reports on migrant workers in Maine.

In 2006, Murray Paige received the Education and Outreach Award from the Maine Cancer Foundation and the Celebrating Courage Community Award for her work in bringing about awareness to the issue of young women and breast cancer.

She holds a master's degree in television from Emerson College in Boston and a bachelor's degree from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
