Great Falls Forum to explore link between crime, pet abuse
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
The next Great Falls Forum program will be Thursday, May 15, at noon with Maine Public Safety Commissioner Anne Jordan speaking on "Correlations Between Animal Abuse and Domestic Abuse: Maine's Response" at the Lewiston Public Library's Marsden Hartley Cultural Center. The event is free and no reservations are necessary.
Anne Jordan was appointed commissioner of public safety in March 2007 by Gov. John Baldacci. The first female to serve in this position, she oversees the Maine Department of Public Safety's nine bureaus: Maine State Police, Capitol Security, Criminal Justice Academy, Drug Enforcement, Gambling Control Board, Highway Safety, Emergency Medical Services, Liquor Licensing and Compliance, and Fire Marshal's Office. A former partner at a Portland law firm, Jordan previously served as an assistant district attorney and deputy district attorney with the York County District Attorney's Office. She is a former member of the Maine Harness Racing Commission and the state's Animal Welfare Advisory Council.
Please join us at the library for this final Great Falls Forum event of the 2007-2008 season. It is a "brown-bag" affair: you provide your own lunch, we'll have bottled water available for a donation. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
The Great Falls Forum is sponsored by the Sun Journal, Bates College, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, and the Lewiston Public Library. For more details, contact the Library at 513-3135. |
