N.H. man sentenced in fraud

Friday, May 16, 2008

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire truck driver who pleaded guilty to theft, taking workers' compensation payments when he was able to work, has to write an apology to his insurance carrier and do 200 hours of community service.

Fifty-three-year-old Donald Rankin of Goshen pleaded guilty in Sullivan County Superior Court to the felony charge of theft by deception.

He was sentenced to six months in jail and told to pay a $4,000 fine, both of which were suspended pending the community service and apology to Maine Employers Mutual Insurance Co. He also must repay nearly $2,300.

The Attorney General's Office says Rankin purposely created the false impression he could not work. The payments were from October 2005 to January 2006.
